Sarkodie is heading home again. The rapper has announced that Rapperholic, his flagship concert brand, will return to Kumasi this year, with the show set for the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Saturday, October 24, 2026.

According to a report by Graphic Showbiz, Sarkodie made the announcement on Facebook, describing Kumasi as his home base. "KUMASI, THIS IS YOUR OWN," he wrote.

What we know so far

Graphic Showbiz reports that the rapper said the show would turn the stadium into a focal point of Ghana's music scene for the night. The concert is expected to feature music, food and culture.

The full line-up of guest artistes has not yet been announced, and ticket details had not been published at the time of writing. Talk Talk will update this story when they are released.

A homecoming that worked

The 2026 show follows last year's Kumasi edition, which marked the first major expansion of Rapperholic outside Accra. That concert, also held at Baba Yara, went ahead despite heavy rain and drew thousands of fans.

According to Graphic Showbiz, the 2025 line-up included Sarkodie, Shatta Wale, Obrafour, Efya, Kofi Kinaata, Medikal and Kweku Smoke. Two moments stood out: an appearance by Obrafour, who is widely regarded as Sarkodie's mentor, and Shatta Wale joining Sarkodie on stage, a moment fans celebrated given the two stars' long history of rivalry.

The strong response to that show is what encouraged Sarkodie to return to Kumasi, the report says.

From album title to concert brand

Rapperholic takes its name from Sarkodie's 2012 album of the same name. The concert grew out of that release and, for years, was one of the biggest fixtures on Accra's December entertainment calendar, drawing large crowds of fans and diaspora visitors during the festive season.

Over time, the show has become one of the best-known music event brands in Ghana. It has been a platform for Sarkodie to perform with both established acts and younger artistes, and has often produced some of the most talked-about live moments of the year.

Why Kumasi matters

Sarkodie was born in Tema and built his early career in the Accra area, but he has described Kumasi as his home base, and much of his music is rooted in Twi-language rap. Kumasi, Ghana's second-largest city, has a huge fan base for hip-hop and hiplife, and has produced many of the country's best-known rappers and musicians.

Moving a major concert brand to Kumasi also reflects a wider push among Ghanaian artistes to take big shows beyond Accra. In recent weeks, singers such as AratheJay have also taken concert series to cities including Kumasi and Cape Coast, giving fans outside the capital access to large-scale live music.

Sarkodie's place in Ghanaian music

Sarkodie, born Michael Owusu Addo, is one of the most successful rappers in Africa. In 2012 he won the BET Award for Best International Act: Africa, and his albums include Rapperholic, Mary, Highest, No Pressure and Jamz. His Rapperholic shows have often doubled as celebrations of his catalogue, with fans singing along to hits from across his career.

Baba Yara Stadium

The Baba Yara Sports Stadium, named after the Ghanaian football great Baba Yara, is one of the country's largest venues and the home ground of Asante Kotoko. It has hosted major football matches as well as concerts and national events.

Holding the show in October, rather than in December, also gives Kumasi fans their own date ahead of the busy end-of-year season in Accra.

What to watch

With less than two weeks to go, fans will be waiting for the line-up announcement. After last year's surprise appearances, many will be hoping for more big-name guests and collaborations on the night.

For Sarkodie, who remains one of the most decorated rappers in Africa, the return to Kumasi is another chance to show the reach of a brand he has built over more than a decade.
