President John Dramani Mahama has begun a two-day working visit to the Ahafo Region as part of his "Resetting Ghana" tour, according to reports by MyJoyOnline and Citi Newsroom.

The visit, which runs from Friday, October 9 to Saturday, October 10, 2026, is focused on inspecting ongoing development projects and talking directly with residents about government policies and local economic growth.

Day one: agribusiness, roads and a bridge

On the first day, the President is scheduled to visit three projects that reflect the region's reliance on farming and the need for better transport links.

  • Bechem processing facility: A poultry, meat and feed processing plant in Bechem, in the Tano South Municipality, focused on agribusiness.
  • Tepa–Goaso road: A road project being carried out under the government's Big Push Programme for infrastructure.
  • Ntontroso Bridge: A bridge linking Acherensua, which MyJoyOnline describes as "one of the region's primary food baskets."

According to MyJoyOnline, the visit is meant to highlight how reliable transport supports farming communities and local trade, and to receive progress reports on the projects.

Day two: town hall in Goaso

The tour will end on Saturday with a town hall meeting at the Victory Centre Assemblies of God Church in Goaso, the regional capital, under the banner "#ResettingGhana Citizens Engagement with President Mahama".

Citi Newsroom reports that chiefs and residents are expected to raise concerns, give feedback on government initiatives and discuss development priorities for the region. The President and his team are also expected to brief attendees on regional projects and national programmes.

Who is travelling with the President

According to Citi Newsroom, the President is being accompanied by:

  • Eric Opoku, Minister for Food and Agriculture
  • Kwame Agbodza, Minister for Roads and Highways
  • Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry
  • Mahama Ayariga, Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs
  • Charity Gardiner, Ahafo Regional Minister

The make-up of the delegation, heavy on agriculture, trade and roads, matches the focus of the projects on the itinerary.

Why the Bechem plant matters

Ghana spends large sums importing frozen chicken and other poultry products each year, and successive governments have promised to grow local production to reduce that bill. Processing facilities such as the one in Bechem are meant to give poultry farmers a reliable local market for their birds and access to animal feed, which is one of the biggest costs in the business. The President's inspection will be watched by farmers in the region for signs of when the facility will be fully operational and how many jobs it will create.

About the Ahafo Region

Ahafo is one of Ghana's newest regions. It was carved out of the former Brong-Ahafo Region in 2019, following a referendum, and has Goaso as its capital. The region is known for cocoa and food crop farming, as well as gold mining, and its roads are an important link for moving farm produce to markets in other parts of the country.

Poor road conditions have long been a concern for farmers and traders in the area, which is why projects such as the Tepa–Goaso road and the Ntontroso Bridge are closely watched by residents.

What is "Resetting Ghana"?

"Resetting Ghana" has been the central theme of the Mahama administration since it took office in January 2025, covering its plans for the economy, public finances and infrastructure. The Big Push Programme is the government's flagship road-building initiative under that agenda.

Regional working visits give the President a chance to check progress on projects in person and to hear directly from local communities, rather than relying only on official reports.

What to watch

Neither report included direct comments from the President or his ministers ahead of the visit. The Goaso town hall on Saturday is likely to be the main moment for announcements, and for residents to raise issues such as roads, jobs and support for farmers.

Talk Talk will follow up with any commitments made during the tour.
