Gospel musician Rev. Nii Okai is bringing high school students together for a day of worship, music and giving. According to a report by Graphic Showbiz, High School Praise '26 is scheduled for Saturday, October 31, 2026, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Shield International School in Adenta, Accra.
The event was launched on October 6 at the AI Centre of IT Consortium in East Legon.
High School Praise is organised by Nii Okai Ministries (NOM) as part of its High School Mission, which uses music, worship and mentorship to reach young people. The event also raises money for children with congenital heart conditions.
According to Graphic Showbiz, funds raised last year helped pay for heart surgery for an eight-year-old girl named Husseina. The initiative has run for four years and has reached thousands of young people, the report says.
Students from six schools are expected to perform:
Gospel artiste Cofi Boham will minister at the event, while Rev. Nii Okai will host.
This year's edition adds a competitive twist. Graphic Showbiz reports that the participating schools will compete in a fundraising drive on the Chango platform and be ranked by how much they raise. Sweet Muzic Pro Audio is providing musical equipment as prizes.
The organisers say their High School Music Evangelism programme also visits schools with music sessions, and that some schools have since formed their own music teams.
Franklin Eleblu, Chief Technology Officer of IT Consortium, said his company was proud to support the project. "There couldn't be a better responsibility, a better use of our funds," he said, according to Graphic Showbiz.
Pastor Abraham Asiedu, CEO of Sweet Muzic Pro Audio, pledged continued support: "I want to assure High School Praise and Nii Okai Ministries that in 2026 we are fully on board."
Rev. Nii Okai wants the event to grow into a multi-day national festival with schools from across the country. "We are looking for a bigger platform where it can actually be a festival," he said. He has asked the Ghana Education Service and the Ministry of Education to help secure a stadium for a larger edition.
Organisers say the fundraising drive will run through the participating schools, with donations collected on the Chango fundraising platform. Parents, alumni and members of the public who want to support the cause can follow the participating schools' campaigns ahead of the October 31 event. The school that raises the most will take home the top equipment prize, giving its music team a boost for the year ahead.
Rev. Nii Okai is one of Ghana's best-known gospel musicians, with a career stretching back more than two decades. He is known for worship songs that are widely sung in churches across the country, and he has won several awards for his gospel music.
Congenital heart conditions affect children across Ghana, and surgery can be costly for many families. Charity events such as High School Praise help close part of that gap while giving students a positive creative outlet.
The event also reflects the strong role of gospel music in Ghanaian youth culture, where school worship teams and praise sessions are a big part of student life. By combining performance, mentorship and charity, organisers hope to inspire students to use their talents for a good cause.
Schools, parents and gospel fans will be watching for the final fundraising totals after the October 31 event.
